Completion

  1. Tri-fold the piece into three sections according to the fold lines in Diagram A.
  2. Press the folds.
  3. Open the front flap. The two inside pocket edges should be offset from each other about  ”. This makes it easier to get into them.
  4. Pin the side edges of the back section and the inside front section together.
  5. Top stitch the back section and the inside front section together. See Diagram C.
  6. To avoid issues related to having a presser foot on top of the bulky seam allowance, use the zipper foot and move the needle over to allow you to sew the seam without touching the bulky seam allowance.
  7. At the top, reinforce the corner edges 5-6 stitches sewn twice. See diagram C “Reinforce Stitching”.
  8. Back up 2 -3 stitches and start to top stitch down the side.
  9. Sew just outside the bulky seam allowance ” . Sew it twice.
  10. Repeat on the other side.
  11. See diagram C “Topstitching ” from edge”.

Finally, to hold the 4” strip of Velcro in place with the lining fabric, you will need to stitch through it and the front main fabric layer.

If you added embroidery to the front side:

  • Use the same thread in the needle as in the embroidery.
  • Stitch across where it won’t be seen on the front but catches the Velcro on the backside.
  • Stitch it twice. Just a straight line is enough. No need to sew all four sides of the Velcro here.
  • I used the same green embroidery thread as I used to sew the  embroidery on my clutch cases sewing straight across the leaves and stems. It is not visible front or back.

Optional: Hardware

  • If you are adding buttons or other hardware to your bag add them now. If you don’t want the stitching to show on the lining side , sew them onto the outside layer of fabric only. This is what I did

All done!

As always I would love to see your projects. Feel free to share them on my Facebook page, Facebook group or email them to me to add to the website.
