The Not Free-standing frames

Gold on navy is a personal favorite.

I love borders and frames, especially fancy ones. I made these to go around my kaleidoscope blocks from the Kaleidoscope Series. One of those blocks is an unlikely addition to the series but I couldn’t resist adding it in. They are Purple Feathers, 10 Point Star, Glorious Hearts, and Floral Fountains.

My Kaleidoscope series, ready to frame.

This is how I made the plum frames for the Kaleidoscope blocks.

NOT Free-Standing Frames

These can be made with square or rectangular blocks much like assembling quilt blocks.
Visit my tutorial pages Making Embroidery Frames to see how these are made.

This keeps the center fabric intact for sewing a design onto.
This is how I made the navy pillow project.

Floral Fountains & Lacy Hearts Frame

Lacy frame around the  6 inch Floral Fountains design

Because the frames had to be large enough to leave an inside opening big enough to accommodate standard size embroidery designs, they had to be divided into sections. Depending on the size of you machines hoop, these designs will need to be sewn more than once, then assembled into a frame (with the one exception of the 7 inch frame shown in green and pink below).

The option to sew the two hearts in a different color is given as well. You can make all of the corners this way or make just one and the rest of the corners all one color. Or you can simply sew them all without changing colors for the hearts. The hearts are still in there but they are all the same color as the rest of the design.

I added the 6 inch Floral Fountains design to the center of the navy pillow so that it would ‘poof’ on it’s own. See my Making Embroidery Frames  to find out how I did this.

I just thought this looked neat! I love adding dimension to my designs.

This is the 175 mm (7 inch) frame made with the 4 inch corners. I have an 8 inch hoop so able to sew it all in one hooping. I added the center design and sewed all this into one hooping.Lauras-Sewing-Studio-Lacy-Heart-Frame-4x4s-x350

100 mm or 4 inches

Makes a 175 mm (7 inch) frame with a 100 mm (4 inch) opening

The first 4 designs sew in the 4 inch hoop

The following 3 designs are made with the 4 inch corners and resequenced for larger hoops. Both completed frames display a 4 inch design

The first two designs sew in a 4 x 7 hoop. When the two are sewn together they make the 7 inch frame

The last design is all 4 corners put together and resequenced to sew into a  7 inch hoop. This design is the one I used in my green and pink sew out above.

Ten-Point Star Collection

These two designs are also 6 inch designs but I put them together and resequenced them to sew into a larger hoop  - a 6 x 10 inch hoop. For anyone with a 6 x 10 hoop this eliminates some of the rehooping needed to make the 10.25 inch frame

Also this frame is available to make in a 200 x 280 mm hoop (8 x 11 inches) - see the last two designs under Design Details below in the 8 inch designs. These are the ‘special’ designs I talk about in the documentation that accompanies this collection.

The first four designs sew in the 8 inch hoop

Lacy Hearts Frames Design Details - 8x8 & 8x11 hoops, Part 1

The first two of these designs are also 8 inch designs but I have put them together and resequenced them to sew in the larger 200 x 280 mm (8 x 11 inch) hoop. This frame is the same finished frame as if sewing the 4 designs above.

Either way it is 4 separate corners. It’s just 4 hoopings vs 2 hoopings in the slightly larger frame here.

The last two designs I call ‘special’ in the documentation because they are unique to all the others. This is the 255 mm (10.25 inch) frame that is made with the 6 inch designs. But I put it together so it can be sewn in 2 sections in the larger hoop as opposed to 4 sections in a smaller hoop. This is the two designs I used to make the navy pillow top.
